Tomorrow night!

Part B, Sin Título, Mexico. Melissa, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Washington. Lots of stuff going on tomorrow night.

Two things..

Sin Título is opening their new studios in Mexico City tomorrow night, and with it they open an exhibition of jewellery for their patron saint, San Título. (Head back in time and read what happened when I met with them last year, and the event that kicked off this collaboration.) During last year Part B teamed up with Sin Título to work on a project together. We have created jewels for the saint, photographed them in Melbourne (and Seattle…) and these will now be displayed on the walls of Sin Título’s new digs in their first studio exhibiton. If you’re in Mexico, please check it out!

Blog Shenanigans

Shenanigans are afoot. You’ve been warned.

The big news from google this week (aside from the Earth Day quiz, through which I found out my spirit animal is a giant squid. What a fool I feel – I’d always thought it was a penguin), was that they would cease pushing sites that weren’t optimised for mobile viewing.  No surprise there from the google pundits. Some surprise from this humble bloggist.

What’s a good internet citizen to do? Update her blog, that’s what.

Thus, I bring you @thejewellist 2.0. It was about time, really, after 5.5 years on the default 2009 WordPress theme (albeit with a couple of hard-won tweaks.) So now I’ve brought us all the way up to 2013. Baby steps.

What am I saying? Well, for those of y’all who visit the site at its address (rather than have content scraped and sent to you via an RSS feed or email) you will notice a few little changes. Right at the minute the big one is the shemozzle that is the Monthly Deadlines Calendar tab (nope, I’m not even going to link to it…) Suffice to say, I’m working on it.*

Aside from that, there’s been a small modification to the header image. Yup, all go here…

*26 April – I fixed it! With a little help from my friend Turbo.. A very little – intuitive programming FTW!

Upcoming lecture: Bainbridge Island Museum of Art

Melissa was New York, Seattle, Perth and Melbourne via LA and Brisbane in the last month. Now she’s back in Seattle and catching up with business… Lecture business!

Melissa Cameron - Infinity Affinity II

Hello America! Yes, I’m back in Seattle, and just in time too. I’ve got a little over two weeks to prepare for my upcoming lecture at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, (known to locals as BIMA.)

I’m going to be talking about my art, my heritage, my moves across OZ and to the US, my inspirations and my work – the laser cut pieces and the hand-cut object series, and I’ll include a sneak peak of the Escalation Series that I’ve been working on for the last two years. Don’t know what I mean and live within a 25 mile radius of Seattle? I encourage you to come along and listen to my tale. We can take the ferry-ride across to BIMA together!

Tickets are free but you do have to reserve a seat and there will be light refreshments served. Fancy!

Looking forward to seeing some of you there.

Opening Friday in Melbourne

Melissa is having her first solo show of her intricate hand-sawn objects at Bini Gallery in Collingwood. April 10, 2015.

Object Evolution - Bini 2015

The exhibition is almost ready! We now have turned over the window to Holly Elliot of Azevinha to work her magic.

Come join me for the opening of Object Evolution at Bini Gallery in Collingwood from 5 – 7:30pm, this Friday, the 10th of April.

Bini Gallery Contemporary Jewellery is at 62 Smith street Collingwood, +61 03 9486 0145, and on Facebook.
Hours: Monday to Friday 10 am – 6 pm Saturday 10 am – 5 pm – Sunday 12 pm – 4 pm.

Opening Monday in New York, amongst a slew of events…

the Radical Jewelry Makeover project from 2013 is back on the move – see it in NY now!

Brass Brooch 2014.
Brass Brooch 2014.

The Ethical Metalsmiths, via their website, are right now engaged in raising funds for their mission via the Gardens of Gold Gala online auction, which started in March and ends soon, on the 11th of April. You still have time to pick up some great items – from pieces of jewellery to unique experiences and jewellery lessons – through the auction, but be aware that there will be some competition next week when the Gala goes into overdrive next week, with a live event on Wednesday April 8, 2015 5-9 PM at Linhardt Design, NYC.

And word is in from Radical Jewelry Makeover (RJM) director, Susue Ganch, that “As part of the gala we are mounting an exhibition highlighting work from RJM (specifically the Artist Project) as well as other members of the organization.” This means that alongside a host of other RJM artist’s pieces, my RJM work from last year will be on show at the Linhardt Design gallery from Monday! Need I add that if you’re in the New York area this is the first opportunity to see my work in your city? And this news just after I spent a week in your state at the Enamel Guild North East conference? I couldn’t be more thrilled!

Melissa @ BIMA

Melissa will be speaking at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art on the 30th of April 2015. If you’re in Washington why not come along, and try to refrain from throwing tomatoes 😉
