Classes at the Society for Contemporary Craft

Melissa is going to teach a class. If anyone is interested…?

To coincide with the upcoming Bridge 12 exhibition (I’ll get you all an invitation soon – no really, it’s coming!) I have been invited to teach a class at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh. Time-wise it’s still a way off, given that it will happen in March next year, but the Fall-Winter class schedule has just been published, so what better time than now is there to slap up an image of it here?

In a wonderful quirk of fate, my workshop happens a couple of weeks before that of fellow liquid-enamellist Kat Cole, whose work I love, (I bought a fabulous brooch from her at SNAG this year) and who also works in steel and recycled metals. Check out the Classes and Workshops page on the SCC website for more details.

On the bench

Melissa is doing paperwork, but downstairs the bench is awaiting her return…

Work in progress: enamelling plan for the work Cold Handle. © Melissa Cameron 2012

I’m working on a piece for an impending 3 person show at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, PA in the USA. The show opens in November, so this will be the last work I make before I send them all off at the end of the month.

It’s very rare that I break out the coloured pencils to settle on the colours for a work. It was a lot more common when I was an interior designer, though back then there was generally far less subtlety in the palette… The ability to mix my own pigments is just another reason to love this job.

re: Deadlines

Schmuck + Talente 2013 entries. Shenanigans afoot. Jewellers beware!

Hiya. Nope, not (yet) time for a new official Deadlines post, but some news about the Schmuck + Talente 2013 deadlines.

I was rattling about, trying to get my entry into the Handwerkskammer site before the deadline today (well, tomorrow here, but we’re a long way behind y’all), October 1st, and while on the site I found out that it seems to have been extended?! Please though, don’t believe me (for goodness sake!), go to the official website and take a gander.

And if you have got yours in (as I have now, after working all weekend on it, dammit!!) feel free to rest safely in your own smugness. However, if you’re not yet on board, you’ve probably still got a good chance to get something in, so long as you get onto it relatively quickly…!
