The Song Dynasty (960-1279) in China saw the introduction of using gunpowder militaristically, the introduction of the Zhanmadao and the publication of The Art of War . The Zhanmadao literally means horse (zhan) chopping (ma) sword (dho), and is said to have been between 125 and 130cm in length.
