Raphael Founder&#8217;s Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been asked to promote an award, so here goes:<\/p>\n<p>The Elizabeth R. Raphael award is a US $5000 cash prize, awarded biannually to an artist chosen for their work in a particular medium responding to the theme of that year.<\/p>\n<p>More detail from the email;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Presented  in conjunction with a juried exhibition at the <a title=\"Society for Contemporary Craft\" href=\"http:\/\/www.contemporarycraft.org\/The_Store\/Splash.html\" target=\"_blank\">Society for Contemporary  Craft <\/a>(SCC), a corresponding catalogue and a feature video on the  winning artist, the biennial prize is funded by the daughters of  Elizabeth R. Raphael, the founder of SCC and a nationally known figure  in the contemporary art scene for several decades.<\/p>\n<p>This  year\u2019s prize will be awarded in the category of small metals, on the  basis of an entry that addresses the theme of \u201ctransformation.\u201d Artists  are asked to submit Mac compatible CD with 4 images, CV, support  materials and $45 application fee to <a title=\"SSC website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.contemporarycraft.org\/The_Store\/Raphael_Prize.html\" target=\"_blank\">SCC<\/a> by June 3, 2011. In addition to  the prize-winning artist, a selection of entries will receive honorable  mention and will be included in the Founder\u2019s Prize exhibition to be  held at SCC from February 3\u2014June 30, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The selection review committee for the 2011 prize will include guest  jurors Bruce W. Pepich, Executive Director and Curator of Collections at  the Racine Art Museum; internationally known jeweler  <a title=\"Natalia's site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.natalyapinchuk.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Natalya Pinchuk<\/a>; Alexandra Raphael, enamel artist (UK); Catherine Raphael, metalsmith and storyteller; Margaret Raphael, filmmaker and Kate Lydon, Director of Exhibitions, Society for Contemporary Craft and member of the Board of Governors, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To get hold of the prospectus (which includes the entry form) go <a title=\"Raphael Prize\" href=\"http:\/\/www.contemporarycraft.org\/The_Store\/Raphael_Prize.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other competitions<\/strong> to keep on your radar are the <a title=\"ITAMI 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mac-itami.com\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\">Itami International Craft Exhibition<\/a> (this year&#8217;s theme &#8211; jewellery, due 27th July) and <a title=\"Cheongju Biennale 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cheongjubiennale.or.kr\/home\/skins\/8\/4_1_en.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cheongju International Craft Biennale<\/a> 2011 (international entries due June 8th.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fancy winning some cash\/getting into an exhibition in Pittsburgh?
