Liquid Enamel for Steel and Copper

Enamel, enamel, enamel, enamel, enamel, enamel, enamel – come hear me say enamel a bunch more times..!

My enamelling workbench in Erfurt - organised chaos
My enamelling workbench in Erfurt – organised chaos

I’m teaching a four-week enamel class at Pratt in a week!

Starting on the 18th of November for four Tuesday sessions from 6-10pm, I’ll be taking a group through how to create great designs with liquid enamel. We’ll start from the start, by preparing metals – including sandblasting – and then we will be talking through the finer points of mixing and applying a base of liquid enamel, followed working over and paring back, and then finishing the enamel surface, on both copper and steel.

If you’ve not used liquid – otherwise known as porcelain – enamel, and you’ve been wondering how to identify and prepare recycled steel for your own projects, then this is the workshop for you!

The class is almost full, so if you’re in the Seattle area, get in soon, and if you’re already enrolled, see you in a week!

Interview on Klimt02

Klimt02 came over to my house/studio for a chat in August. It was lovely talking to Sanna and the photographs by Jonas are great

Hey! Now here’s a thing.. With all the One Design shenanigans (yes indeedy – opening this Friday from 6:30pm at Contemporary Metal in Osborne Park – do check it out!) I completely forgot to mention this: I was recently interviewed by Sanna Svedestedt for Klimt02. She published a lovely article about our chat, and with her she brought Jonas Carboo who took a wonderful array of pictures of our encounter.

Here’s a couple more images by Jonas that they shared with me, not included in Sanna’s post.

See how I can relate everything back to One Design this week? You must be so jealous of these mad skillz… OK, so just to assuage my guilt on becoming such a stuck needle on the record, the piece in the top image is actually a work in progress for the Heat Exchange exhibition. More pics of pieces like that to come. (In the mean time, since I’m on the subject, Ramon’s new works up on that blog are looking pretty fab…)
